The information on this page was for the 2019 AP Exam administration. Schools can use this information for reference until 2020 funding information is available. The 2020 state fee policies will be posted on Federal and State AP Exam Fee Assistance as soon as each state finalizes their 2020 AP Exam funding plan.

2018-19 Details by State: AP Exam Fee Assistance

Arizona

For the 2019 AP Exam administration, for public school students who qualify for the College Board fee reduction of $32 per exam, the state of Arizona will pay:

  • $22 per AP Exam (except AP Seminar and AP Research Exams)
  • $70 per AP Seminar Exam and AP Research Exam

The final fee for any AP Exam (including AP Seminar and AP Research Exams) for a qualifying student is $31.

New Jersey

For the 2019 AP Exam administration, for public and non-public school students qualifying for the College Board fee reduction of $32 per exam, the New Jersey Department of Education will pay $20 per AP Exam, except for AP Seminar and AP Research Exams.

  • Final AP Exam fee for qualifying low-income students for each AP Exam (except AP Seminar and AP Research Exams): $33
  • Final AP Exam fee for qualifying low-income students for each AP Seminar and AP Research Exam: $101

What Schools Must Do

Your school's AP coordinator takes the following steps.

Before the exams:

  • Determine the total number of students in your school eligible for fee reductions for low-income students.
  • Determine the total number of exams they’ll take.
  • Enter these numbers on the AP Exam Ordering website before ordering exams.

After the exams:

  • Fill in the "Option 1" circle on each qualifying student's registration answer sheet.
  • When generating your invoice online, enter the total number of exams taken by qualifying low-income students.
  • Send $33 to the AP Program for each AP Exam (except AP Seminar and AP Research Exams) per qualifying student, and $101 per AP Seminar Exam and AP Research Exam per qualifying student.
  • Submit a copy of your school's invoice to the state.

New York

For the 2019 AP Exam administration, for public and non-public school students qualifying for the College Board fee reduction of $32 per exam, the state of New York will pay:

  • $48 per AP Exam (except AP Seminar and AP Research Exams)
  • $96 per AP Seminar Exam and AP Research Exam

The final fee for any AP Exam (including AP Seminar and AP Research Exams) for a qualifying student is $5.

U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA)

For the 2019 AP Exam administration, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) will pay for AP Exams for two categories of students enrolled in an AP course who take the respective AP Exam.

Category 1 students are those students who qualify for the College Board fee reduction of $32 per exam. For eligibility criteria, visit AP Exam Fee Reductions. For these students, DoDEA will pay:

  • $53 per AP Exam, except AP Seminar and AP Research Exams
  • $101 per AP Seminar Exam and AP Research Exam

The final fee for any AP Exam (including AP Seminar and AP Research Exams) for Category 1 students is $0.

Category 2 students are those students who do not qualify for the College Board fee reduction. For these students, DoDEA will pay:

  • $85 per AP Exam, except AP Seminar and AP Research Exams
  • $133 per AP Seminar Exam and AP Research Exam

The final fee for any AP Exam (including AP Seminar and AP Research Exams) for Category 2 students is $0.
