Schools that ask students to sign up for the exam in the fall boost their students’ chances of earning a score that translates to college credit. That’s why more than half of schools offering AP already do it.
A new timeline for the 2019-20 school year will support students and schools in that effort. These changes help teachers create a classroom culture where students are committed and engaged.
It all starts with joining the online system. This step unlocks new digital tools and resources that students, teachers, and coordinators can use throughout the year, including an AP question bank and Personal Progress Checks.

Use the school handouts and other downloadable tools to tell AP coordinators, teachers, students, and parents about the new AP resources and the new exam ordering deadlines, policies, and fees. Don’t forget to share this information with homeschooled students, independent-study students, and any other students who wish to test at your school. If you send students elsewhere to take an exam, make sure they receive instructions for registering for exams at the place where they’ll take the test.

The exam fee and fee reduction haven’t changed for the 2019-20 school year, but we’re introducing two new fees. Students are more likely to stay engaged in class and tackle challenging topics head-on when they register in the fall, and these fees ensure that students don’t wait until the last minute to make a decision.
